mfgiq is an answer-first manufacturing resource. It is not a marketplace, a blog, or a sales funnel dressed up as content. It is a structured engineering reference built to answer the questions you actually have at the start of a project: what material, what process, what finish, and roughly what it will cost.
Everything on the site is powered by one structured database of materials, processes and finishes. That single source feeds the free decision tools, the Materials Library of engineering metals and plastics, and the hundreds of side-by-side X-vs-Y comparisons. Because the tools and the comparisons draw from the same data, the strength numbers, machinability ratings and cost indicators stay consistent wherever you read them — instead of contradicting each other from page to page the way scattered blog posts often do.

Why we built it
There is a real gap in manufacturing: the hardest decisions happen the earliest, when you have the least information. Choosing 6061 over 7075, CNC over injection molding, or anodizing over powder coating shapes your cost, your lead time and your part's performance — yet most of that knowledge is locked inside experienced engineers' heads, scattered across forum threads, or buried behind a "request a quote" button that tells you nothing until you've already committed.
We built mfgiq to close that manufacturing decision gap. The goal is to put the reasoning out in the open: give engineers and buyers the same data and the same trade-off logic a seasoned shop would use, for free, before any money or drawings change hands. Make the right call early and the rest of the project gets easier; make the wrong call and you pay for it through every later stage.
Our standards
Trust is the entire point of a reference site, so we are explicit about what our data is and is not:
- All tools and data are indicative guidance. Property values, cost estimates and process recommendations are typical figures meant to inform early decisions and budgeting — not certified specifications.
- Confirm critical specs with an engineer. Before you commit to production, especially for safety-, regulatory- or load-critical parts, verify the exact numbers against authoritative datasheets and a qualified engineer.
- We don't fabricate specs. We don't invent properties, test results, certifications or numbers to fill a gap. Where data is approximate or context-dependent, we say so rather than imply false precision.
- Independent by design. Comparisons are written to help you decide, not to steer you toward a particular material, process or finish for our benefit.
